Evan goes to college
by Bob Thomas
Nephew Evan Thomas starts college next Monday…so proud of him!
Evan,
Just a reminder – classes start Monday at GCSU. I hope you have your GCSU beanie, jacket and decal in your car window by now. The tattoo can come later.
This is going to be just one of the many ‘great adventures’ you’ll have in your life and you should savor every moment of it…. unfortunately the savoring will probably come about a year after you finish school and start working 9 to 5 in the real world! You will initially wish you were back in college…. as the years pass you’ll wish you were in high school and finally when you’re my age you’ll find yourself reminiscing about the third grade and wondering what ever happen to that cute little girl the teacher forced you to dance with that year!
I know, actually we all know, that you will do well and we will continue to be proud of you…..and, if you don’t do well we’ll still be proud of you… not ‘as’ proud, but still proud of you for trying you best. Actually that’s what kept the family going all these years…. “trying our best”!
Of course when you get into you first few months of college you’ll want to find a girlfriend….. you should start with a girl as beautiful as you can find… a party girl….. the life of the party. These kinds of girls are usually good for a semester or two, then they get bored with you and you have to start searching for a replacement. The second girl should be a little more conservative, a bit more studious and able to help you get better grades. (Because your grades will have suffered while you were dating the party girl!) These kinds of girls are usually good for about a year to a year and a half before they get bored with you and leave to find a ‘party guy’. At this point you’ll want to get serious about finding the right girl… unfortunately I can’t help you because I haven’t been too successful myself, but I suspect you will have become so ‘gun shy’ about women you will be very cautious and probably find the right one for you. She will be “the marrying kind”.
Of course you will be expected to carry on the Thomas name… so you should be planning on having 4 – 6 kids…. (you are the last of the ‘Thomas’ name you know!). … but you can wait until you graduate before you devote yourself to a life of cutting grass and buying groceries.
Seriously, this will be “one of the great adventures” in your life and I know you will take every advantage of it…. have fun. And know that we are all watching you….. almost like reading a good novel…we can’t wait to read the next chapter.
Love Ya!,
Uncle Bob
PS – you know, when you start having kids, you can make your Grandfather and I both happy by naming the first boy “William Robert”
I think the family needs a “Billy Bob” in order to continue our Southern Heritage!
