Where I’m From – Maggie Thomas

by Bob Thomas

My Niece, Maggie Thomas, wrote this as a school assignment.

I’m so very proud of her because this does indeed describe her home and herself very well. Far better than I, or anyone else could.

When she reaches adulthood and unfurls her wings the world will never be the same.

Where I’m From – Maggie Thomas

I am from a calm house, from Clorox and fresh baked cookies.

I am from the cozy kitchen of a laughing home.

I am from the Irises, the saplings and leafy shrubbery.

I am from cookies on Christmas and brown eyes, from Jeanie Bell and Grammy and the Thomases.

I am from the family who helps and has so much fun.

From Noah’s snail, slow going but gets there in the end, and “stop doing that”.

I am from a small church full of friendly faces.

I’m from a warming little house in a quiet neighborhood and mashed potatoes and steak.

From the monkey pulling uncle’s hair, the little zoo, and the teeth sitting on the table at my grandfather’s house.

I am from old photo albums on the shelf and memories being relived.
